Arterial and Venous Doppler (Vascular Doppler) London
£400
An arterial and venous Doppler Ultrasound, also known as vascular ultrasound or duplex ultrasound, is a non-invasive diagnostic scan used to analyse blood flow within arteries and veins across the body. This advanced imaging technique provides real-time insights into circulatory health and helps doctors accurately diagnose vascular conditions.

How is a Vascular Doppler Test Performed?
A Vascular Doppler test is a simple, non-invasive procedure carried out by a trained sonographer. A small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to the area being examined to ensure optimal signal transmission. A handheld probe (transducer) is then gently moved over the skin with light pressure. The transducer emits high-frequency sound waves that reflect off the arteries or veins, providing real-time images for blood flow patterns displayed on a screen.
Why is a Vascular Doppler Scan Needed?
Detects Blood Flow Abnormalities
A vascular Doppler scan identifies blood clots, vessel narrowing, blockages, aneurysms, or vascular injuries that may restrict normal blood circulation.
Investigates Unexplained Symptoms
It is used to investigate symptoms such as dizziness, memory loss, shortness of breath, leg pain and swelling, and severe varicose veins.
Assesses Stroke Risk
By analysing blood flow, the test helps identify factors that may increase the risk of stroke.
Supports Surgical Planning
A Doppler scan gives detailed insights into blood flow through the blood vessels before and after bypass graft surgery.
Types of Vascular Doppler Ultrasound Scans
Carotid Doppler
Detects narrowing or blockage of the neck arteries, helping reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications.
Aortic Duplex
Evaluates blood flow in the major abdominal arteries to identify abdominal aortic aneurysm and analyse endovascular stents or grafts.
Lower Limb Arterial Doppler
The ultrasound of the leg arteries that expand from the abdomen to the ankle helps find the underlying cause of claudication, Ischaemic Disease, and aneurysm.
Upper Limb Arterial Doppler
Evaluates arteries in the arms and shoulders to detect narrowing of the vessels and restricted blood flow.
Lower Limb Venous Doppler
Checks the blood flow through the veins in the legs to diagnose conditions, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and varicose veins.
Upper Limb Venous Doppler
Examines veins in the arms and shoulders to identify deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thoracic outlet syndrome.
