Dr Thomas Mwambingu is an accomplished consultant cardiologist based in Leeds, practising at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital. He specialises in sports cardiology,  general cardiology, and advanced cardiac imaging, with particular expertise in echocardiography,  coronary artery disease, heart muscle disease, and exercise prescription. He combines over 20 years of clinical experience with a strong commitment to patient-focused care, providing tailored cardiovascular assessments for both recreational and elite athletes.

Dr Mwambingu graduated from the University of Leeds in 2001 and completed his postgraduate training across Yorkshire and the North-East, including a cardiology rotation at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. He now serves as Lead Cardiologist at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University. He is also the first cardiologist in the Yorkshire region to complete a Master’s degree in Sports Cardiology from St George’s University, London.

His contributions to cardiology have been recognised through multiple awards, including CAHN Cardiologist of the Year 2025 and the iWantGreatCare Certificate of Excellence 2019. He is an active member of professional societies including the British Society of Echocardiography and the European Society of Cardiology, reflecting his dedication to clinical excellence and ongoing professional development.
