PROFESSOR TARV DHANJAL

MBChB(hons) PhD FRCP FESC FEHRA

Professor Dhanjal is the substantive Professor of Cardiology at the University of Warwick (Warwick Medical School) and a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW). He provides private care at the HCA Harborne Hospital (Edgbaston, Birmingham), Circle/BMI Meriden Hospital (Coventry), Nuffield Warwickshire Hospital (Leamington Spa) and the Circle/BMI Priory Hospital (Edgbaston, Birmingham).

Prof. Dhanjal is trained in all aspects of cardiac arrhythmia management including catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF), ventricular tachycardia (VT), atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, SVT and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. He also implants pacemakers & defibrillators including biventricular cardiac resynchronisation devices. His specialist interest is ablation of complex arrhythmias especially AF and life-threatening VT/VF. This includes radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation and pulsed field ablation technologies.

Prof. Dhanjal manages all arrhythmias within his NHS and private practice.  He leads the Ventricular Tachycardia service at UHCW.

Prof. Dhanjal has various proctoring contracts which allows him to help colleagues around the world with complex arrhythmia cases.  He has operated in Prague, Paris, Doha, Greece and the USA to date. He has been invited on several occasions to perform ‘live cases’ during international conferences.

Prof. Dhanjal was appointed as the tenured Professor of Cardiology with Warwick Medical School and leads the Heart Rhythm Research Group. His team have brought in over three million pounds of research funding to date. The team includes two Associate Professors in Cardiology, post-docs, NIHR Clinical Lecturer with 6 PhD students. The research team are focused on improving the understanding and management of dangerous heart rhythm disorders (Ventricular Tachycardia) as well as Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). The VT research team collaborate with other academic centres in Brighton (Royal County Sussex Hospital), London (Bart’s Translational Arrhythmia Research Group), Paris (Henri Mondor Hopital INSERM U955), Barcelona and the US. His research focuses on the complex arrhythmias ventricular tachycardia (VT) and atrial fibrillation (AF). Prof. Dhanjal is a Fellow of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He is a member of the British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) VT Research Committee. In this capacity he is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences. In addition, he proctors (train/support) international centres (Greece, Middle East, China) in performing complex ablation procedures.

Prof. Dhanjal has presented at many national and international conferences. He has received several awards and media recognition for his research and clinical work.
