CONSULTANT CARDIOLOGIST
DR AMR GAMAL SETIH
Dr. Amr Gamal Setih is a consultant interventional cardiologist with advanced subspecialist expertise in complex coronary and structural heart interventions. He is a substantive Consultant Cardiologist in Coronary and Structural Intervention at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. Dr. Gamal completed advanced fellowship training in transcatheter mitral and tricuspid interventions at St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, one of the world’s leading structural heart centres.
His clinical practice focuses on transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve interventions (TEER, TMVR, TTVR), and management of advanced valvular heart disease in high-risk or inoperable patients. He also has extensive expertise in complex and high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (CHIP), including left main disease, chronic total occlusions (CTO), bifurcation PCI, and use of advanced adjunctive technologies such as intravascular imaging, atherectomy, and intravascular lithotripsy, all supported by multimodality imaging (CT, TEE, ICE) for procedural planning and optimization.
Dr. Gamal has a strong academic and research profile, with over 35 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including JACC, EuroIntervention, European Heart Journal, and Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions. He has been an investigator and collaborator in major international clinical trials and registries, with research interests in transcatheter valve therapies, complex valve interventions, antithrombotic strategies after PCI, and outcomes of advanced interventional techniques. He is actively involved in multidisciplinary heart team decision-making, structural heart programme development, clinical governance, and innovation in transcatheter therapies.
EDUCATION
He holds a MBBCh degree with First-Class Honours (2007), an MSc in Internal Medicine and Cardiology (2011) with a thesis on mitral annular calcification and left atrial function, and a PhD in Cardiology (2018) comparing contemporary PCI and CABG in multivessel coronary artery disease. He also holds a Certificate of Excellence in Interventional Cardiology (EAPCI, 2018), is a member of MRCP (UK, 2019), holds a Diploma in UK Medical Practice (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, 2019), and is registered on the GMC UK Cardiology Specialist Register (2021). His additional qualifications include ALS (British Resuscitation Council, 2019), Level 2 Cardiac CT Accreditation (British Society of Cardiovascular CT), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (University of Edinburgh, 2022).
