ABOUT Dr Sofia Metaxa
She specialises in heart failure, cardiac imaging, devices, preventive cardiology with key expertise in adult transthoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography and heart failure syndrome. She is a recognised Heart Failure Specialist and has a particular interest in advanced cardiac imaging and cardiac implantable electronic devices. She routinely performs procedures such as implantation of single and dual-chamber pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac loop recorders.
Dr Metaxa has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of complex cardiac conditions and is committed to providing individualised, patient-centred care. Her clinical practice covers all areas of general cardiology, including heart failure, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, arrhythmias, syncope, coronary artery disease and structural heart disease.
Dr Metaxa graduated from Athens Medical School in 2003 and completed her postgraduate cardiology training in Athens, achieving her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology in 2013. She holds an MD in acute coronary syndromes and a PhD in ischaemic cardiomyopathy from the University of Athens. She holds Heart Failure Accreditation from the European Society of Cardiology Heart Failure Association. She is fully accredited in adult transthoracic and stress echocardiography by the British Society of Echocardiography and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and the European Heart Failure Association.
Since her appointment at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Metaxa has played an instrumental role in the Heart Failure Service and has contributed significantly to the development of the Stress Echocardiography programme. She has authored several publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and is actively involved in medical education, including teaching medical students and junior doctors, as well as supervising cardiology trainees.
