ABOUT Dr Vivek Kodoth

Dr Vivek Kodoth is a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital. His sub-speciality interest is coronary intervention and he is one of the high volume coronary interventional cardiologists in the United Kingdom. Dr Kodoth trained in cardiology in Belfast, Northern Ireland and further specialised in coronary intervention with a two year complex coronary intervention fellowship. He was awarded MD from the Queen’s University, Belfast and he is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He is a member of British Cardiac Interventional Society (BCIS) and an affiliate member of Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention (SCAI, USA). After his fellowship, he was appointed as a consultant cardiologist with special interest in complex coronary intervention to the Leeds Teaching Hospital, Leeds. In addition, he is an honorary senior lecturer at the Leeds Medical School. Dr Kodoth, relocated to Bournemouth in 2018, after he was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Dr Vivek Kodoth sees patients privately with general cardiology symptoms/ conditions like chest pain, palpitation, breathlessness, swollen legs, heart valve disease, heart failure, dizziness, fainting episodes, hypertension and abnormal cholesterol level. Furthermore, he sees patients for assessment for fitness to fly for pilots, driving and family screening for inherited cardiac conditions. Dr Kodoth is the clinical lead for cardiac rehabilitation at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and he is the president of the Bournemouth Heart Club.

Dr Finocchiaro gained his medical degree at the University of Trieste in Italy. He went on to study at Stanford University where he researched hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and athlete’s heart. Following this, he specialised in cardiovascular magnetic resonance at The Heart Hospital Imaging Center as well as St George’s Hospital in London. Dr Finocchiaro then completed a PhD focusing on sudden death in athletes, family screening in decedents of sudden death, and physiological adaptation to exercise. He won a number of awards for his work and was a finalist for the European Society of Cardiology Young Investigator Award in 2015. He has also published his work in international journals.

Dr Finocchiaro also holds level III accreditation in CMR (EACVI) and is accredited in echocardiography by the British Society of Echocardiography.
